Survival or Rooted?

A self-assessment for high-achieving women. Under five minutes.

This isn't about how hard you work or how much you achieve. It's about what's driving it. There's a difference between success that comes from a chosen direction, and success that comes from a story running underneath - one you never consciously chose.

Answer honestly - not how you think you should feel, but how you actually feel. There are no right answers.

Q1. I work hard because I want to - it feels aligned with who I am and what I'm building.
Q2. Underneath the drive to succeed, there is a quiet fear of what happens if I stop performing or fall short.
Q3. I find it difficult to switch off from work, even when there is no immediate reason to keep going.
Q4. My success feels like mine - like an expression of who I actually am, not a performance I'm maintaining.
Q5. I have achieved things that looked impressive from the outside, but felt hollow - or immediately moved the goalposts to the next thing.
Q6. When something goes well, I can genuinely enjoy it and feel proud of myself.
Q7. There is a version of me I'm keeping hidden - from colleagues, from my team, perhaps from myself.
Q8. I feel fulfilled in my work, not just productive.
Q9. My most important decisions come from a clear sense of my own values and priorities - not from what seems expected or safe.
Q10. I sometimes say yes when I mean no, take on more than I should, or make choices designed to avoid disapproval or conflict.
Q11. There is a persistent sense that I have not quite arrived - that there is always something more to prove, earn, or become before I am allowed to feel settled.
Q12. I trust my own read on situations. I make decisions and move - without excessive second-guessing or the need to check how it lands with others.

Both patterns present

You are high-achieving and you are exhausted. And somewhere underneath the exhaustion, you know there is another way.

You are not struggling - you are succeeding. But you are running on a fuel that costs you. You are aware enough to notice the gap between how things look and how they feel. You have probably tried to close it and found that the gap keeps reappearing. That is because the pattern is not a habit. It is a story, and it runs at a deeper level than any strategy reaches.

Mostly rooted

You are already operating from a relatively rooted place - and something in you knows the difference.

You have done real work to get here, even if you cannot always name what that work was. You trust yourself more than most. You feel fulfilled more often than not. There are still places where the old pattern surfaces - the over-commitment, the quiet performance, the moment you said yes when you meant no - but you can see it when it happens.

YOUR NEXT STEP

The next layer is always there. If you are curious about what deeper work looks and feels like - in your body, your decisions, your leadership - Join me in my live 2-hour teaching, 'Always Achieving. Never Arriving.'

Primarily in survival

Success looks right from the outside. From the inside, it feels like a performance you cannot stop.

You are not winging it. You are not failing. You are - by every visible measure - doing well. And it is exhausting. The achieving has never stopped. The arriving has never come. Success driven not by a chosen direction but by a story that has been running so long it stopped feeling like a story. The good news is that it is a story. Which means it can be seen. And what can be seen can be changed.

YOUR NEXT STEP

This is where the next step begins. Not with fixing what is wrong, because nothing is wrong with you. With seeing what has been running you. Come and do the work. You can start by joining me in my live 2-hour teaching, 'Always Achieving. Never Arriving' to delve deeper into Survival vs. Rooted Leadership and begin to see how things can start to shift for you.
